Making E-Cards using Layers

Background: in photoshop layers can be used to put different images on top of, or around each other. its kind of like
aap aik cheez ko doosri cheez pe rakheN lekin still donoN cheezeN dekh sakeN. what happens with this
technique is that you aren't able to see corners of the images that are pasted on top of each other. plus when you paste
text image on top of a regular image the text shows but the text BOX does not. neat hmm?

alright! greeting cards can be made by choosing different images and then putting them together in a way that they respond to each other. for example a card that is made for somebody's birthday would most certainly have a cake..or flowers..or gifts..and so on. the trick is to find the right kind of iamge. i suggest the yahoo image search!
For example a search for the key word "yellow" shows all kind of images that have the color yellow in them.
maslan this yellow bowl:

or these yellow flowers:

clicking on the image takes you directly to the original location of the image and this way more pictures of the same sort can be found easily.

by using different techniques we can manipulate the images so they go together.
some of the techniques i use to make ecards are:

  • cloning images
  • copy and paste with feather
  • adding text
  • adding blank layer to add depth (believe me this will make more sense later)
  • changing opacity
  • changing the size of a picture
  • flipping a picture
  • text effects
there are manu more techniques but for now we are going to focus on these.

this card was made by using the above techniques

  • in this card i took ONE heart image and changed its size, opacity, angle and pasted it all around the rose.
  • the rose in the backfround was cut from a different picture and pasted on this canvas but since its opacity is very low it gives the image a nice background.
  • i made a blank layer and with the paint bucket filled it with light yellow color to give the image, especially the rose some depth.
  • the roses on the left were cloned here from a different image. cloning helped me get rid of the harsh edges of the image.
  • text was added at the very end..

another version of the card

  • everything is the same in this image except the size of the card was enlarged and the image of the girl was added instead of the flowers. and the color of the text was changed to deep red.
  • i used color pencil and brush stroke filters on the image of the girl to get rid of the harsh lines and make it look like a painting instead of an actual image.
