when you select an image and go to Edit and select Copy
it will select all of your selection which will have hard edges.
like this imge here:

but if you featherd the image first and then selected
it to copy its eadges would not be solid.
for example:
now lets change the background color to black:

see the difference? the only thing i did was instead of
leaving the background as white i changed it to black so the difference
would be more apparent.
now lets go stept by step.
-
Open an image that you want to try this feature on.
-
with the selector
select part of the image.
-
now go to top menu Select and choose Feather. (this feature
will only be active when part of the image is selected.
-
this window will pop up:
-
change the number to 35 and click ok.
-
now go to Edit and copy the image. (notice the part of the
image you selected has round edges now)
-
now go to File-New and hit Enter. (new canvas size will automatically
be the size of the image you copied)
-
now go to Edit and paste the image or from the keyboard holding
down the CTRL key press P.
thats it..there is one more thing you can do with this feature.
-
open the same image you worked on and select part of the
image.
-
now go to top menu Select and choose feather.
-
same as before enter the number 35 (or some other number)
and click OK.
-
now from the same top menu Select choose Inverse (this will
select the rest of the image and part of the image you selected won't be
selected anymore)
-
now from your keyboard het the key DELETE. (i hope you know
where this key is located he he)
-
this is the result!
this way you won't have to change canvases. and you can
get rid of the edges of an image. remember, this will work great with layers
because only THAT layer will be deleted and other layers around the HAND
will become visible now.
